PRODUCT INFORMATION

Thyronorm Oral Solution is a prescription-only veterinary medicine used for the management of feline hyperthyroidism.

Thyronorm contains thiamazole (also known as methimazole), an antithyroid medication prescribed to reduce excessive thyroid hormone production in cats diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. It works by inhibiting thyroid hormone synthesis, helping to stabilise metabolic rate and control the clinical signs associated with an overactive thyroid gland.

Feline hyperthyroidism is a common endocrine disorder in older cats and may present with weight loss despite increased appetite, hyperactivity, increased thirst and urination, vomiting, diarrhoea and cardiovascular strain. Medical management with thiamazole allows controlled long-term treatment where radioactive iodine therapy or surgical intervention are not pursued.

The oral solution formulation allows precise dose adjustment and is particularly useful for cats that are difficult to medicate with tablets. Dosing may be titrated over time according to thyroid hormone monitoring and clinical response, in accordance with the clinical judgement of the prescribing veterinary surgeon.

This product is a prescription-only veterinary medicine (POM-V).

Dosage, duration of treatment and administration instructions are determined by the prescribing veterinary surgeon and provided on the dispensing label. Cats receiving ongoing treatment for hyperthyroidism require regular blood testing and monitoring as advised by their vet.

Further information, including contraindications and potential adverse reactions, can be found in the product data sheet available here.
