For Veterinary Professionals
Sending a written prescription for a client? Click here to send a prescription
Vetalia is an independent, vet-led online veterinary pharmacy. It was developed in response to growing client demand for greater choice when obtaining medicines via written prescriptions, particularly outside large, centralised pharmacy models.
Vetalia is intentionally small, clinician-run, and built with a strong focus on regulatory compliance, appropriate sourcing, and professional standards. This page is intended to provide clarity for veterinary professionals who would like to understand how the service operates.
How Vetalia is positioned
Vetalia is designed to complement, not compete with practice-based dispensing.
There is no expectation for practices to recommend or promote the service. It exists simply as an alternative option for clients who request written prescriptions and who prefer an independent, clinician-run pharmacy.
The aim is to provide a transparent, compliant route for dispensing that does not rely on aggressive pricing strategies, loss-leader models, or pressure-based marketing.
Governance and compliance
- Prescriptions are dispensed by a registered veterinary surgeon
- All medicines are sourced from authorised UK wholesalers
- Dispensing follows current VMD guidance and RCVS standards
- Clear communication is prioritised with both clients and prescribers
- No substitution is made without appropriate clinical oversight
Relationship with practices
Vetalia does not:
- Request exclusivity
- Deliberately undercut practice pricing
- Offer incentives for recommendation
- Contact practices regarding individual prescriptions unless clarification is required
The intention is to remain a low-friction, low-noise option that can be mentioned when relevant and ignored when not.
When Vetalia may be useful
Some practices choose to mention Vetalia when:
- Clients request written prescriptions specifically for online dispensing
- Clients ask about independent alternatives
- Clients express discomfort with large, centralised providers
There is no obligation or expectation to do so.
