PRODUCT INFORMATION

Solensia Solution for Injection for Cats

Solensia Solution for Injection is a prescription-only veterinary medicine used for the management of osteoarthritis-associated pain in cats.

Solensia contains frunevetmab, a monoclonal antibody that targets nerve growth factor (NGF), a key mediator involved in osteoarthritic pain.

By targeting this pain signalling pathway, Solensia provides targeted pain control in cats showing clinical signs of osteoarthritis.

This product is a prescription-only veterinary medicine (POM-V) and can only be supplied against a valid veterinary prescription.

What Solensia is used for

Solensia is used to manage pain associated with osteoarthritis in cats.

Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint condition that becomes increasingly common as cats age. The condition can cause stiffness, reduced mobility and behavioural changes.

Signs of osteoarthritis in cats may include reluctance to jump, reduced activity, difficulty grooming or changes in behaviour.

Veterinary treatment aims to control pain and improve mobility so affected cats can maintain a good quality of life.

How Solensia works

Solensia contains frunevetmab, a monoclonal antibody that specifically targets nerve growth factor (NGF).

NGF is involved in the transmission of pain signals associated with osteoarthritis. By binding to NGF, frunevetmab helps interrupt the pain signalling pathway.

This targeted approach allows Solensia to help reduce osteoarthritis-associated pain in cats.

Administration

Solensia is typically administered as a once-monthly subcutaneous injection.

The dose is selected according to the cat’s body weight and clinical response.

Administration may be carried out by a veterinary surgeon, or by the owner following direct instruction and training from their primary care veterinary practice.

Syringes and needles are not supplied and must be obtained directly from the veterinary practice.

Monitoring during treatment

Cats receiving treatment for osteoarthritis should be monitored by a veterinary surgeon to assess response to therapy and overall mobility.

Management of osteoarthritis often involves multiple approaches including weight management, environmental adjustments and long-term pain control strategies.

Important information

Solensia will be supplied following receipt of a valid veterinary prescription.

Ongoing clinical monitoring by the primary care veterinary practice is recommended as part of long-term osteoarthritis management.

Further information including contraindications, warnings and potential side effects can be found in the product data sheet available here.
