Prednicare Tablets for Dogs and Cats are a prescription-only veterinary medicine containing prednisolone, a corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic activity. Prednicare is licensed for use in both dogs and cats and is available in 1mg and 5mg tablets.

What is Prednicare used for in dogs and cats?
Prednicare is licensed as an anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic agent for dogs and cats. Prednisolone is a glucocorticoid corticosteroid. Corticosteroids reduce inflammatory responses and can also affect immune responses, which is why prednisolone may be prescribed by veterinary surgeons for a range of conditions where these effects are required.
Prednicare 1mg and Prednicare 5mg tablets
- Prednicare 1mg - each tablet contains 1mg prednisolone.
- Prednicare 5mg - each tablet contains 5mg prednisolone.
Both strengths are oral tablets. The strength, dose, frequency and duration of treatment should be exactly as prescribed by your veterinary surgeon.
Is Prednicare the same as prednisolone?
Prednicare contains prednisolone as its active ingredient. Prednicare is a licensed veterinary formulation of prednisolone for dogs and cats. Each tablet contains either 1mg or 5mg prednisolone depending on the strength prescribed.
Prednicare side effects and precautions
Prednisolone and other systemic corticosteroids can cause a range of adverse effects, particularly with longer-term treatment. Reported effects include increased thirst, increased urination and increased appetite. Longer-term corticosteroid treatment can affect fat, carbohydrate, protein and mineral metabolism and may suppress normal adrenal function.
Does Prednicare require a veterinary prescription?
Yes. Prednicare 1mg and 5mg tablets are POM-V medicines and can only be supplied against a valid veterinary prescription. The strength and quantity supplied must correspond with the prescription issued by your veterinary surgeon.
How should Prednicare tablets be stored?
Prednicare should be stored in a dry place, protected from light and below 25°C. Keep all veterinary medicines out of the sight and reach of children and animals.
