Lenivia Solution for Injection is a prescription-only veterinary medicine used for the management of osteoarthritis-associated pain in dogs.
Lenivia contains izenivetmab, a monoclonal antibody that targets nerve growth factor (NGF), a key mediator involved in osteoarthritic pain.
By targeting this pain signalling pathway, Lenivia provides targeted pain control for dogs showing clinical signs of osteoarthritis.
This product is a prescription-only veterinary medicine (POM-V) and can only be supplied against a valid veterinary prescription.
What Lenivia is used for
Lenivia is used for the alleviation of pain associated with osteoarthritis in dogs.
Osteoarthritis is a progressive degenerative joint disease that commonly affects ageing dogs but may also occur following joint injury or developmental joint disease.
Dogs with osteoarthritis may show signs such as stiffness, reduced activity, difficulty rising, reluctance to jump, or behavioural changes related to chronic pain.
Treatment focuses on controlling pain and improving mobility so affected dogs can maintain a good quality of life.
How Lenivia works
Lenivia contains izenivetmab, a monoclonal antibody that specifically targets nerve growth factor (NGF).
NGF plays a key role in transmitting pain signals associated with osteoarthritis. By binding to NGF, izenivetmab helps interrupt the pain signalling pathway.
This targeted mechanism helps reduce osteoarthritis-associated pain in dogs.
Administration
Lenivia is administered as a subcutaneous injection.
Treatment is given once every three months, with the appropriate dose and strength selected according to the dog’s body weight.
Administration may be carried out by the dog’s primary care veterinary practice.
In some cases, and at the discretion of the prescribing veterinary surgeon, administration may be carried out at home following appropriate instruction.
Needles and syringes are not supplied with Lenivia. If the prescribing veterinary surgeon is happy for the injection to be administered at home, the necessary injection equipment must be obtained directly from the dog’s primary care veterinary practice.
Monitoring during treatment
Dogs receiving treatment for osteoarthritis should be monitored by a veterinary surgeon to assess their response to therapy and overall mobility.
Management of osteoarthritis often includes additional strategies such as weight control, controlled exercise and environmental modifications.
Important information
Lenivia will be supplied following receipt of a valid veterinary prescription.
Lenivia must not be used in dogs under 12 months of age, animals intended for breeding, or pregnant or lactating dogs.
Ongoing clinical monitoring by the primary care veterinary practice is recommended as part of long-term osteoarthritis management.
Further information, including contraindications, warnings and potential side effects, can be found in the product data sheet available here.
