PRODUCT INFORMATION
Fungiconazol Tablets for Dogs are a prescription-only veterinary medicine containing ketoconazole, an antifungal medicine used for the treatment of certain fungal skin infections in dogs.
Fungiconazol is available in 200mg and 400mg strengths, supplied in packs of 10 tablets.
Available strengths
- Fungiconazol 200mg Tablets – pack of 10 tablets
- Fungiconazol 400mg Tablets – pack of 10 tablets
What is Fungiconazol used for?
Fungiconazol is authorised for the treatment of dermatomycoses in dogs caused by the following dermatophytes:
- Microsporum canis
- Microsporum gypseum
- Trichophyton mentagrophytes
Dermatophytosis is a fungal infection affecting the skin and coat and is commonly referred to as ringworm. Your veterinary surgeon will determine whether treatment with ketoconazole is appropriate for your dog.
What does Fungiconazol contain?
Fungiconazol contains ketoconazole, an azole antifungal medicine.
- Fungiconazol 200mg: Each tablet contains 200mg ketoconazole
- Fungiconazol 400mg: Each tablet contains 400mg ketoconazole
How is Fungiconazol given?
Fungiconazol is given orally and should be administered exactly as directed by your veterinary surgeon.
The dose and duration of treatment will depend on your dog's weight, the infection being treated and their response to treatment. Dermatophyte infections may require treatment for an extended period, and your veterinary surgeon may recommend follow-up examinations or testing before treatment is discontinued.
Do not alter the dose or stop treatment early unless advised to do so by your veterinary surgeon.
Monitoring during treatment
Ketoconazole can affect liver function, particularly during prolonged treatment. Dogs receiving Fungiconazol may therefore require monitoring by their veterinary surgeon during treatment.
If your dog becomes unwell or develops any unexpected signs while receiving Fungiconazol, contact your veterinary surgeon for advice.
Important information
Fungiconazol should not be used in dogs with liver failure or in animals with known hypersensitivity to ketoconazole or any of the ingredients in the medicine.
Ketoconazole can interact with other medicines. Your veterinary surgeon should be made aware of any other medications or supplements your dog is receiving before Fungiconazol is prescribed.
When treating dermatophytosis, appropriate environmental hygiene may also be important because fungal spores can persist in the environment and contribute to reinfection or transmission.
Prescription requirements
