PRODUCT INFORMATION

Fortekor Tablets are prescription-only veterinary medicines containing benazepril hydrochloride, an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor used in dogs and cats.

Fortekor is available from Vetalia in 2.5mg, 5mg and 20mg tablets. The 2.5mg and 5mg strengths are authorised for dogs and cats, while the 20mg strength is authorised for dogs.

Available strengths

  • Fortekor 2.5mg Palatable Tablets: boxes of 28 or 56 tablets
  • Fortekor Flavour 5mg Tablets: boxes of 28 or 56 tablets
  • Fortekor Flavour 20mg Tablets: box of 28 tablets

What is Fortekor used for?

In dogs, Fortekor is authorised for the treatment of congestive heart failure.

In cats, the authorised 2.5mg and 5mg strengths are used for the reduction of proteinuria associated with chronic kidney disease.

Your veterinary surgeon will determine whether Fortekor is appropriate for your pet, which strength should be used and the required dose.

What does Fortekor contain?

The active ingredient is benazepril hydrochloride.

  • 2.5mg tablets: 2.5mg benazepril hydrochloride per tablet
  • 5mg tablets: equivalent to 5mg benazepril hydrochloride per tablet
  • 20mg tablets: equivalent to 20mg benazepril hydrochloride per tablet

How is Fortekor given?

Fortekor should be administered exactly as directed by the prescribing veterinary surgeon. The appropriate dose depends on the animal's species, bodyweight and clinical condition.

Do not alter the dose or discontinue treatment without first discussing this with your veterinary surgeon.

Important information

Fortekor should not be used in animals with a known hypersensitivity to benazepril or any of the ingredients in the product. It should not be used in cases of hypotension, hypovolaemia, hyponatraemia or acute renal failure, or where cardiac output failure is due to aortic or pulmonary stenosis.

Kidney function and blood pressure may require monitoring during treatment, particularly where other medicines affecting the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system or potassium balance are being used.
