PRODUCT INFORMATION

Epiphen Phenobarbital 40mg/ml Oral Solution for Dogs is a prescription-only veterinary medicine containing phenobarbital, licensed for the management of epilepsy in dogs.

Epiphen oral solution is used for long-term seizure control in dogs where phenobarbital treatment has been prescribed by a veterinary surgeon. The liquid formulation allows accurate dose adjustment and may be particularly useful for small dogs, dogs requiring fine dose titration, or patients that cannot reliably take tablets.

Phenobarbital is an anti-epileptic medicine used to help manage recurrent seizures in dogs. Dosing, monitoring and any dose adjustments must be determined by the prescribing veterinary surgeon based on the individual dog’s clinical response, blood monitoring results and ongoing treatment needs.

Learn more about canine epilepsy, seizure control and long-term epilepsy management in dogs here.

Epiphen Phenobarbital 40mg/ml Oral Solution may be prescribed where a dog needs phenobarbital in liquid form rather than tablets. Oral solution can allow more flexible dosing compared with fixed tablet strengths, particularly during initial stabilisation or when small dose changes are required.

This product is classified as a Schedule 3 Controlled Drug (CD Sch 3).

A valid original written veterinary prescription must be posted to Vetalia before this medicine can be supplied. Electronic copies, emailed prescriptions or uploaded scans are not acceptable for Schedule 3 Controlled Drugs. Postal details will be emailed after checkout.

Due to its controlled drug status:

Prescriptions are valid for 28 days from the date of issue.

Each prescription may be dispensed once only.

Repeat prescriptions are not permitted. However, we do accept instalment prescriptions.

Delivery is by tracked, 24h signed-for service.

Dosage instructions, frequency of administration and duration of treatment are provided by the prescribing veterinary surgeon and shown on the dispensing label. Owners should follow the veterinary prescription exactly and should not alter the dose or stop phenobarbital treatment unless advised by their vet.

Dogs receiving phenobarbital treatment usually require ongoing veterinary monitoring, which may include blood tests to assess phenobarbital levels, liver parameters and overall response to treatment. Your veterinary surgeon will advise how frequently monitoring is needed.
