What is Cimalgex used for?
Cimalgex is authorised in dogs for the treatment of pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis and for the management of peri-operative pain due to orthopaedic or soft tissue surgery.
Your veterinary surgeon will determine whether Cimalgex is appropriate for your dog, which strength should be used and the required dose and duration of treatment.
What does Cimalgex contain?
The active ingredient is cimicoxib, a selective cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitor belonging to the NSAID class.
- 8mg tablet: 8mg cimicoxib
- 30mg tablet: 30mg cimicoxib
- 80mg tablet: 80mg cimicoxib
How is Cimalgex given?
Cimalgex should be administered exactly as directed by the prescribing veterinary surgeon. The appropriate tablet strength and dose depend on the dog's bodyweight and the condition being treated.
Do not alter the dose, combine Cimalgex with another NSAID or corticosteroid, or discontinue treatment without veterinary advice.
Important information
Cimalgex should not be used in dogs with gastrointestinal ulceration or bleeding, impaired cardiac, hepatic or renal function, haemorrhagic disorders, or known hypersensitivity to cimicoxib or any of the excipients.
As with other NSAIDs, veterinary monitoring may be recommended during treatment, particularly for dogs receiving longer-term therapy.
