PRODUCT INFORMATION
Atopica Oral Solution for Dogs and Cats
Atopica Oral Solution is a prescription-only veterinary medicine used for the treatment of chronic manifestations of atopic dermatitis in dogs and cats weighing over 2 kg.
Atopica contains ciclosporin, an immunomodulatory medication licensed for use in dogs and cats. It is commonly prescribed to help manage chronic allergic skin disease.
This product is a prescription-only veterinary medicine (POM-V) and can only be supplied against a valid veterinary prescription.
What Atopica Oral Solution is used for
Atopica Oral Solution is used to manage chronic allergic skin disease, particularly atopic dermatitis.
Atopic dermatitis occurs when the immune system reacts abnormally to environmental allergens such as pollen, dust mites or mould spores.
Dogs and cats with this condition may experience persistent itching, skin inflammation, hair loss and recurrent ear or skin infections.
Treatment is often long term and aims to control inflammation and reduce the clinical signs associated with allergic skin disease.
How Atopica works
Ciclosporin works by selectively modulating immune responses that drive allergic inflammation.
It acts on specific immune cells known as T lymphocytes, reducing the immune signalling that contributes to skin inflammation and itching.
By regulating these immune pathways, Atopica helps control the clinical signs of atopic dermatitis and supports improved skin comfort.
Administration
Atopica Oral Solution is typically administered once daily, although the exact dose and schedule are determined by the prescribing veterinary surgeon.
The liquid formulation allows flexible dosing and may be particularly useful for small animals or patients that cannot easily swallow capsules.
Your veterinary surgeon will advise on the correct dose based on the animal’s body weight and clinical condition.
Monitoring during treatment
Animals receiving treatment for chronic allergic skin disease should be monitored by a veterinary surgeon to assess response to therapy and manage underlying triggers.
Management of allergic dermatitis often involves multiple approaches including parasite control, dietary assessment and treatment of secondary infections.
Important information
Atopica should only be used under veterinary supervision and supplied against a valid veterinary prescription.
The dose, frequency and duration of treatment will be determined by the prescribing veterinary surgeon based on the patient’s body weight and clinical condition.
Further information including contraindications, warnings and potential side effects can be found in the product data sheet available here.
